The development of Stafford College’s new science and technology centre is now complete, following an extensive £3.5m refurbishment programme delivered by Midlands-based G F Tomlinson.
The centre is now home to robotic suites, science laboratories, IT suites and a LEGO education innovation studio which will allow students to develop their practical planning, creative and analytical skills. The newly refurbished facility will also be used as a main entrance into the College’s campus, and be a main focus when arriving at the site.
Karen Dobson, College Principal and Chief Executive of Stafford College said: “Students were actively involved with the scheme and took part in numerous site visits, with those on brickwork and electrical courses invited to learn more about their trade whilst the build was taking place.
“It is vital students are provided with the best facilities to learn, and the most appropriate skills, knowledge and contacts to give them the best chance of finding an employer once qualified.
“Improved technology within our industries means there’s more demand from colleges to deliver effective courses and link students with potential employers. I believe the new science and technology centre will be an excellent asset to the science and technology industries and I can’t wait to welcome students here in September.”
Lee Perkins, contracts manager at G F Tomlinson said: “The four-storey building has been transformed to provide improved learning facilities and offer increased support for students who aspire to a career in the science and technology sectors.
“It has been specifically designed to support new student pathways and local employment training needs. The nine new combined pathways will be linked with local or national employers providing students with the latest innovation direct from the related industry.
“This project has proven a successful partnership between G F Tomlinson and Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group, and we are pleased to be involved with this facility that will benefit students and help improve their future prospects.”
G F Tomlinson is also the proud sponsor of the college’s science award, which celebrates the merging of Newcastle-Under-Lyme and Stafford Colleges to create one of the largest educational providers in Staffordshire.
