An internal refurbishment of the existing Castle College in Nottingham to become a new secondary free school for Bluecoat Trent Academy, who are part of the Archway Learning Trust.
Located on Maid Marian Way in Nottingham’s busy city centre, just a stone’s throw away from the historic Nottingham Castle, the project required strict control measures to ensure full segregation of the works and to ensure the safety of the surrounding public.
The refurbished facility aims to provide over 450 sixth form students with high-quality learning space, with over 25 A-level subjects on offer.
The project forms part of the Scape Regional Construction Framework and involved essential upgrades, refiguration and refurbishment of the five-storey Main Block and the two-storey N Block.
Delivered within a busy city centre location, we implemented a traffic management plan to arrange deliveries just in time and during off-peak hours, to avoid multiple deliveries arriving at the same time and to avoid disruption to the surrounding building-users and general public.
Secure gates to the front car park were kept closed and locked at all times to avoid unauthorised access to site. We appointed an overnight security officer during out of hours working.
The former Nottingham College now houses improved teaching facilities, including the creation of a brand-new lecture theatre, a visitor’s area and a new speed line student entrance; along with newly refurbished social space with a kitchen/servery area.
The works involved redecorations throughout, including replacement of ceiling tiles, new flooring, lighting, partition walls and upgrades to power and data services, with some areas benefitting from new fire doors and power upgrades.
